Which Hob Is Right for You?

Choosing a hob depends on personal taste, cooking style, and kitchen design. Whether renovating or upgrading, Miele offers a premium range—from gas and ceramic to advanced induction with integrated extraction. This guide helps you find the perfect hob.

A Choice Based on Heating Type: Gas, Electric or Induction

Each hob type offers its own strengths.

Induction hobs heat the pan directly using electromagnetic fields, offering fast heat-up times, responsive temperature control and a cooler glass surface for added safety. Miele’s full-surface models allow pots to be placed anywhere, while DiamondFinish and MattFinish protect against scratches. Choose a model with integrated extraction for minimalist, island-friendly design.

With a smooth glass surface and easy operation, ceramic hobs are intuitive and streamlined - ideal for everyday cooking, though slower to heat than induction.

Ideal for those who enjoy tactile control, Miele’s gas hobs offer fast response and visual flame feedback. Selected models feature GasStop and ReStart for added safety.

A choice based on Safety Features

At Miele, safety is built into everything we do. Both, Miele induction hobs and electric ceramic hobs offer various safety features such as residual heat indicators, lock function and automatic switch-off.

With the Miele induction hobs, you can also enjoy even more peace of mind. Unlike a traditional electric ceramic hob, the surface of an induction hob remains relatively cool, as heat is generated directly in the cookware rather than the glass surface itself. This makes it safer to use, especially in family homes. Moreover, if a cooking zone is turned on without a compatible cookware in place, it simply won’t activate.

Miele gas hobs are just as carefully engineered. With selected models, if the flame extinguishes unexpectedly due to a cookware boiling over, the GasStop and ReStart feature automatically reignites it. If relighting fails, the gas supply is shut off for added reassurance.

A choice based on Design

Your kitchen reflects your style and preferences. Miele hobs are designed to integrate beautifully, whether your space is traditional or contemporary, large, compact or open-plan.

  • MattFinish
Selected models are available with matt black finishes, these create a bold, modern aesthetic that pairs beautifully with contemporary cabinetry and muted colour palettes. Moreover, they offer more resistance to scratches.
  • DiamondFinish
A premium ceramic-glass finish with subtle gloss, that combines durability with elegance. Nearly as hard as diamond, it resists scratches, making it ideal for sophisticated, minimalist kitchen spaces.
  • Frameless hobs
Offer maximum flexibility - they can be installed flush with the worktop for a sleek, built-in look or surface-mounted for a slightly elevated appearance. Ideal for both contemporary and transitional kitchens.
  • Steel-framed hobs
Add a defined edge and visual contrast - perfect for coordinating with other steel appliance finishes.
Modern kitchen setting

A choice based on sizes and available space

From compact city apartments to expansive open-plan kitchens with islands, Miele offers a wide range of hob sizes to suit every space. Starting at just 40cm, our more compact models are ideal for smaller kitchens or minimalist layouts where space efficiency is key. For medium-sized homes, 60 and 80cm options offer flexibility without compromise. At the larger end, our 90cm hobs are perfect for entertainers and keen cooks, offering ample room for multiple pots and pans, ideal for larger households or professional-style cooking. If you are not limited in space, you can combine various SmartLine elements for a professional-style cooking experience.

A choice based on Practicality: Effortless Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning, not all hobs are created equal.

Induction hobs stand apart for their exceptional ease of maintenance. Because they use electromagnetic fields to heat only the cookware and not the glass surface, the cooking zone stays cooler. Spills and splatters don’t burn onto the surface, so a simple wipe with a damp cloth is often all that’s needed. Selected Miele induction hobs feature DiamondFinish or MattFinish glass ceramic for enhanced scratch resistance and long-term durability, making them both practical and elegant.

If low-maintenance cooking is your priority, induction offers a superior experience. Miele takes it even further with thoughtful innovations like our induction models with integrated extraction. The integrated extractor comes with a dishwasher-safe grease filter and a liquid collection tray. These details are what make Miele induction hobs not just cleaner, but genuinely easier to live with every day.

In contrast, electric ceramic hobs retain heat in the glass, meaning food residues can burn onto the surface and require more intensive cleaning.  Cleaning a gas hob takes a few extra steps: while the pot rests are dishwasher-safe, the other components should be cleaned separately.

A selection of our hobs features Miele’s Con@ctivity technology which allows the hob and hood to communicate intelligently. As you cook, the hood adjusts its power automatically based on the hob’s activity, ensuring optimal air quality with zero manual input. When you finish, the hood powers down on its own.  Look for models that are Con@ctivity compatible.

Why should you choose an Induction Hob with Integrated Extraction?

If you're looking for a cleaner, quieter, and more flexible kitchen experience, Miele’s induction hobs with integrated extractor offer a compelling solution. These innovative hobs combine fast, precise induction cooking with a powerful, yet discreet extractor built into the surface. Here’s why a Miele KMDA induction hob with integrated extractor could be the ideal upgrade for your kitchen:

  • Install anywhere - even on kitchen islands
Without the need for an overhead hood, induction hobs with integrated extractor can be positioned wherever suits your layout, offering true design freedom and a sleek, uncluttered look.
  • Exceptionally quiet cooking
Miele’s Silence motor and optimised airflow make induction hobs with integrated extractor one of the quietest extractor solutions available. Many models are Quiet Mark certified, a recognised award granted by the UK-based Noise Abatement Society to products that meet high standards for low noise—so you can cook, chat, and entertain in peace.
  • Smart, automatic ventilation
With Miele’s Con@ctivity technology, the extractor adjusts automatically to your cooking activity - boosting or reducing airflow as needed and turning off when you have finished cooking, so you never have to think about it.
  • Flexible extraction or recirculation
Hobs with integrated instructor models are available with both ducted and recirculating options. That means even if external ducting isn’t possible, you can still enjoy effective odour and steam removal thanks to the high-performance filters in Miele’s recirculation models.
  • Easy to clean and maintain
Grease filter with the integrated liquid collection tray is dishwasher safe, while the CleanCover interior ensures everything stays hygienic and accessible.

Experience Miele

At Miele, we believe longevity is the ultimate sustainability.  Therefore, every hob is designed and engineered for long-term performance. And if something does go wrong, Miele hobs are designed to be repaired rather than replaced. This gives you peace of mind that you are investing not just in innovation, but in lasting quality.  All hobs come with a standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty, and from time to time, extended warranty promotions are available.

FAQs

Gas vs Induction - Which Should You Choose?

Gas hobs offer visual control and instant flame adjustment, making them a classic choice for cooks who like to see their heat source. Miele gas hobs are built with precision, and selected models feature GasStop and ReStart for added peace of mind.  Induction, however, takes efficiency and safety to the next level. It heats the cookware directly, not the hob surface, for faster results and greater control. Selected Miele induction models go further with Full-Surface technology, smart connectivity, and energy-efficient integrated extraction - perfect for modern kitchens.  If you're looking for fast heat, a cooler surface and a sleek design, induction could be your ideal upgrade. But if you prefer traditional flame cooking, Miele's gas hobs ensure there's no compromise on style, safety or quality.

Do I need special cookware for a Miele induction hob?

Most modern pots and pans are induction-compatible—including many stainless-steel options and even brands like Le Creuset. Just look for the induction symbol on the base. For optimal results, your cookware should have a flat, magnetic base to ensure even heat distribution. Miele also offers its own premium cookware range, specifically designed to complement our induction hobs and deliver perfect cooking performance.

What happens if the flame on a gas hob goes out?

Some models feature the GasStop function, which automatically cuts off the gas supply if the flame is extinguished — for example by a draught. Other models are equipped with GasStop & ReStart, which not only cuts off the gas when the flame goes out but also automatically reignites it if cookware accidentally boils over.

Can I install an induction hob on a kitchen island?

Yes. Miele’s induction hobs with integrated extractor are ideal for island installations and available with both extraction and recirculation options depending on your space. Equally, it is possible to install a standard hob with different hood models like Miele’s downdraft extractors, ceiling extractors or island hoods.

Does Miele offer induction hobs which support both extraction and recirculation?

Yes. We do different models for recirculation or extraction mode depending on your individual kitchen set-up. In extraction mode, cooking vapours are drawn in, passed through grease filters, and vented outside - ideal for efficiently removing steam, odours and heat. In recirculation mode, the air is filtered through grease and charcoal filters before being released back into the kitchen, making it a perfect solution where external ducting isn’t possible.  Whichever mode you choose, maintenance is designed to be effortless.

How easy are Miele hobs to clean?

Very. Induction models wipe clean effortlessly. Some gas hob components, including pot rests are dishwasher safe. The induction hobs with integrated extractor have a metal grease filter with a liquid collection tray which is easy to access and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Miele’s CleanCover protects the interior for added hygiene and safety.

Are Miele hobs with extraction quiet?

Miele induction hobs with integrated extractor feature the Miele Silence motor, which is up to 25% quieter than previous models - even at high power. Airflow is optimised to reduce noise without sacrificing performance.  Many models are Quiet Mark certified.

What’s the difference between flush-fit and surface-mounted installation?

Frameless hobs in a flush-fit installation sit level with the worktop for a sleek, integrated look. Frameless models in a surface-mounted installation have an elegant appearance and along with steel-framed hobs are often easier to install, especially in retrofit scenarios.

Will I need a professional to switch from gas to induction?

Yes. Gas disconnection and induction fitting should always be handled by a qualified installer. Your local Miele team can advise further.
