Cleaning performance is reduced (with vacuum cleaner bag)

The cleaning performance of the vacuum cleaner with vacuum cleaner bag is reduced.

The airways are blocked.

Something bulky has been vacuumed up (e.g. large leaves from house plants) and is blocking the suction tube. The casing gets hot as air is unable to escape as required.

Disassemble the floorhead, hose, handle and telescopic tube.

You can carefully push large items which are jammed in the hose or in the telescopic tube towards the floorhead using a long object (e.g. a broom handle).

Items causing a blockage are usually easy to shake out of the handle.

The vacuum cleaner bag is full and/or the filters are clogged.

The suction power is reduced if the vacuum cleaner bag is full, the exhaust filter and/or the motor protection filter is clogged.

Switch the vacuum cleaner off using the On/Off foot switch.

Remove the mains plug from the socket.

Blocked pores reduce the suction power of the vacuum cleaner.

Dispose of the vacuum cleaner bag when it is full. Do not attempt to re-use the vacuum cleaner bag.

Replace the vacuum cleaner bag, the exhaust filter or the motor protection filter, if necessary:

  • Change the vacuum cleaner bag when the timestrip® filter change indicator turns red, or sooner if it is no longer effective (see possible reasons for this below).

  • Replace the motor protection filter whenever you start a new packet of vacuum cleaner bags. Every packet of original Miele vacuum cleaner bags contains 1 motor protection filter. Multipacks contain 4 motor protection filters.

  • Depending on the model, your vacuum cleaner will be fitted as standard with one of the following exhaust filters:

    • Exhaust filter | Types | Vacuum cleaner bag
    • a AirClean: Replace this exhaust filter every time you start a new packet of Miele vacuum cleaner bags. Every packet of original Miele vacuum cleaner bags contains 1 AirClean exhaust filter. Multipacks contain 4 AirClean exhaust filters.

    • b AirClean Plus filter 50 (light blue): Replace this exhaust filter after approx. 1 year. Make a note of the date on the exhaust filter.

    • c Silence AirClean 50 (grey), d Active AirClean 50 (black)*, e HEPA AirClean 50 (white)*: Replace these exhaust filters when the timestrip® filter change indicator is completely red. The indicator lights up after approximately 50 hours of operation, which is equivalent to about 1 year of average use. You can continue vacuuming when the light comes on. However, the suction power will be reduced, as will the effectiveness of the vacuum cleaner filter if it is not replaced in good time.

      *For models C1, S 2xxx, S 3xx, S 4xx, S 5xx, S 6xx, S 7xx, S 8xx : Active AirClean 30 (black), HEPA AirClean 30 (white).

Damage due to contamination in the dust compartment.

Large quantities of dust may get into the dust compartment and damage components if the vacuum cleaner bag has not clicked into position.

Before closing the dust compartment lid, always make sure that the vacuum cleaner bag has been inserted far enough and has clearly clicked into position.

A catch element prevents the dust compartment lid from closing without a vacuum cleaner bag in place.

Do not force it.

Close the dust compartment lid securely, making sure it clicks into position. Take care not to trap the vacuum cleaner bag when doing so.

Inserting | Suction hose | Vacuum cleaner bag

Insert the hose connector into the suction opening on the vacuum cleaner until it clicks into position. Depending on the model, line up the guides on the two pieces.

Original Miele accessories are available from the Miele online shop, Miele Customer Service and from your Miele dealer.

When using the turbobrush: the turbobrush is blocked.

Switch the vacuum cleaner off using the On/Off foot switch.

Remove the mains plug from the socket.

To remove threads and hairs, place the electrobrush upside down on a level, clean surface.

Cutting | Threads | Turbobrush

To guide the scissors, move along the guide track on the roller brush.

Cut any threads or hairs that have wound themselves around the roller brush with a pair of scissors.

Then run the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the cut threads and hairs.

When using the turbobrush: the turbobrush speed drops.

The turbobrush is driven by the suction flow of the vacuum cleaner. With tightly woven carpets, the speed of the turbobrush can drop because the suction inlet is so tightly enclosed by the carpet pile that the air flow does not circulate. The brushing effect may then not be satisfactory.

STB 305 TurboTeQ:

Opening | Air inlet valve | STB 305 turbobrush

In this case, open the air inlet valve by turning the large brush symbol to the circle marking (upper section of the figure).

In all other cases, the air inlet valve must be closed so that the full suction power of the vacuum cleaner is released on the floor.

Close the air inlet valve by turning the small brush symbol to the circle marking (bottom section of the figure).

STB 201 / STB 205:

Opening | Air inlet valve | STB 205_201 turbobrush

In this case, open the air inlet valve by moving the line marking on the slider to the large brush symbol (left section of the figure).

In all other cases, the air inlet valve must be closed so that the full suction power of the vacuum cleaner is released on the floor.

Close the air inlet valve by moving the line marking on the slider to the small brush symbol (right section of the figure).
