The Miele Company has a long and rich history
of high quality engineering. “Immer Besser” or "Forever Better" was established
early as the company motto and stands for a commitment to the highest quality standards,
longevity and improvement; both in production and business practices. This philosophy
is as relevant today as it was over 113 years ago.
Founded in 1899 by a farmers son, Carl Miele, and a salesman, Reinhard Zinkann,
The Miele Company is still independently owned and managed by the Miele and Zinkann
families. With global headquarters in Gutersloh, Germany, Miele is a world leader
in the production of premium domestic and commercial appliances. There are 8 production
plants in Germany and also plants in Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania and China.
Miele has its own wholly owned sales subsidiaries in 47 countries and is represented
in a further 48 by distribution partners. Company turnover now exceeds €3bn.
In 1963 Karl Heinz Wedekind, who recognised a demand for high quality domestic appliances,
was entrusted by Rudolf Miele to set up a subsidiary in Great Britain. Miele GB
started operating from modest offices in Great Portland Street and employed only
7 staff. In 1972 the company moved to larger premises in Acton and then in 1981,
to Abingdon, Oxfordshire
As the demand for Miele products has increased the Abingdon site has expanded and
now occupies 13.5 acres. The premises comprises of large purpose built offices,
120,000 square feet of warehouse space and the Miele Experience Centre
