Gunning Dental is a busy dental practice located in Annan, South West Scotland, treating up to 110 patients daily with general and aesthetic dentistry. Hygiene and cleanliness are critical to the day-to-day running of the practice, with staff following guidance by the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) to ensure high standards are met. After relocating to a larger premises, the practice had more space to house decontamination equipment and turned to decontamination specialist Eschmann to help find the best products for its requirements.

The practice’s washer disinfectors were nearing the end of their working life and Gunning Dental decided it was time for them to be replaced. Looking to invest in a solution which could last for years to come, Eschmann recommended Miele Professional’s PG 8581 Undercounter washer disinfectors. “Our long-standing relationship with the practice meant that we were able to recommend the best product to suit their needs based on capacity, quality, cost and durability”, commented Stevie Boyle, Regional Commercial Manager at Eschmann.

The free standing washer disinfector has been designed with configurations specifically for dental practices and has a large capacity to hold up to 360 instruments. With cycle times starting from 50 minutes, it’s the perfect solution for practices requiring the fast turnaround of instruments. To prevent the risk of cross contamination and infection, the PG 8581 provides heavy duty cleaning and disinfection and is compliant to HTM 01-05 and SDCEP.

Andrew Gunning, lead dentist at Gunning Dental, said: “Washer disinfectors are a mandatory requirement in Scotland under SDCEP. The Miele Professional washer disinfectors are not only cost effective and easy-to-use, but they also give staff the peace of mind that instruments are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

As a busy practice, we need to ensure downtime is minimal; we know of the Miele brand due to its reputation for quality and long-lasting products and the PG 8581’s have not disappointed. We have been working with Eschmann for decades and the ongoing support they provide makes life easier. The installation process went ahead without any issues and Eschmann also delivered ECPD training to staff, meaning the machines were ready to use in no time at all”.
