Miele Innovates Again with the Launch of its DGM 6800 Steam Oven with Microwave

The German premium domestic appliance manufacturer, Miele is delighted to announce the launch of its latest innovation, the DGM 6800 Steam Oven with Microwave, which will be available from May 2015.  The ideal solution for customers that would like a second built in cooking device but are short on space and cannot decide which to choose, this versatile appliance combines the convenience of a microwave with the quality of cooking results that are produced from a Miele steam oven without any compromises.

The 40L Miele DGM 6800 Steam Oven with Microwave uses the same MultiSteam technology, which features on all other Miele steam ovens.  A powerful (3.3kW) external steam generator and eight steam inlet ports in the rear panel of the oven interior provide fast and uniform steam generation and distribution.  It also has a 1.5L light weight water tank and long life internal LED lighting.

Offering the same full range of functions as flagship Miele steam ovens, the DGM 6800 features more than 150 automatic programmes that can be conveniently accessed via the M Touch, high-resolution TFT display and its search function - simply type in B on the virtual keyboard for ‘Beef’ and the display will show all the appropriate programmes.  The menu can be intuitively browsed by swiping or scrolling with the tip of a finger while functions and menu options appear in striking white letters on a black background. Where help with navigation is useful, prompts are displayed in colour.

The microwave benefits from seven power levels (80-1000W) and includes QuickStart, reheating, defrosting, keep warm and an automatic programme for popcorn.  It is also possible for users to create unique programmes (up to 20) where the microwave and steam modes are both used in turn, in one programme; for example gentle defrosting with the microwave function followed by uniform cooking via steam.

As steam and microwave energy could not be more dissimilar with respect to the way they operate, Miele product engineers found themselves confronted with technical challenges. The machine door had to be designed to prevent any leakage of microwave energy but must also be durable to prevent steam from escaping.  The inner cabinets on Miele units are always made from stainless steel as this meets the Miele life expectancy remit of 20 years even when exposed to steam, however metal in a microwave oven induces arcing and sparking.  Miele overcame this problem through the use of silicone joints, which effectively seperate the stainless steel cabinet from the stainless steel side racks.

The Miele DGM 6800 Steam Oven with Microwave is available in the PureLine range in CleanSteel.  It offers cooking on four levels and comes with four stainless steel cooking containers, a wire rack, a glass drip tray, two descaling tablets and a steam cooking recipe book.
