Achieving the right drying result

Majority of wash loads are made up of mixed fibres that require different levels of care. There are several ways you could save time and get the best drying results for the individual garments, they are:

  • Normal + setting - this setting is designed for thick types of fabric with multiple layers that need longer drying times to dry deep into the core of the fabric like towels. Also drying towels in a tumble dryer will make them softer as it fluffs up the fibres.
  • Normal setting - this setting is great for single layers of fabric like t-shirts. Drying on the normal setting is what we like to call our 'cupboard dry' finish.
  • Automatic setting - this programme is perfect for drying small loads of mixed fabric types like synthetics and cottons. When the tumble dryer reaches the correct level of dryness remove that garment and let the dryer keep working until finished. i.e. remove your cotton blouses or shirts when your tumble dryer is showing it has reached hand iron.
Easing the chore of ironing

No one really likes ironing and we would like to make the process faster and less strenuous. Read on to find how:

  • Hand iron setting - this makes ironing easy. It leaves moisture in the garments to allow the iron to steam them as it goes. Great for getting a crisp finish on your shirts. Using a good fabric conditioner will also aid with the ironing.
  • Anti-crease - at the end of every programme the tumble dryer will go into anti-crease for up to an hour if the garments are not removed from the drum. This prevents creases being set into the clothes as the garments cool down.
  • Rotary ironer - we have a rotary ironing machine that makes ironing bedding fast and easy. It enables the user to iron large duvet covers and sheets in a smooth motion. Miele's rotary ironer can also be used for ironing general laundry items.
Making your towels softer

We all like to have soft fluffy towels when we get out of the shower or the bath. But sometimes we find they are maybe not as soft as we would like. Here are some tried and tested methods in making your towels feel soft:

  • Fabric enhancer - using a fabric enhancer works differently to a fabric softener it does not affect the absorbency of the towel but will make the fibres feel softer. Look for the bottle that states easy iron on the bottle.
  • Line drying - if you prefer to line dry when the weather is good but find that your towels feel hard when dry, just pop them into the tumble dryer for 10 minutes this fluffs up the fibres. When line drying it is hard to measure the level of moisture left in the fabric and sometimes garments become to dry and the texture is lost.
  • Under dosing of detergent - this can create a build up of natural body oils that deposit themselves back onto the garments. It can also allow a build up of limescale in your towels if in a hard water area. A maintenance was of 95°C will keep this build up down.
Maintaining your machine

To keep your machine working efficiently there are some simple steps as follows:

  • Filters - always keep your filters clean and lint free, this helps the air flow efficiently and drying times at the optimum.
  • Condenser box - this needs to be cleaned approximately once a month to keep the air flowing freely. The condenser box can be cleaned with a showerhead rinsing it through.
  • Condensate drawer - This needs to be empted when the empty container light appears lit on the fascia or there is a message in the display. The tumble will lock the user out of use if the drawer is full and will resume when empted. Alternatively activate the pump away facility to take the condensed water to the drain instead of the drawer.
