The usage phase of domestic appliances accounts for around 90% of the total energy expenditure during the product lifecycle. This is the challenge that Miele faces and the answer is to continuously seek to optimise the energy efficiency and consumption of appliances. Miele offers its customers optimised functions which are in-line with customers' requirements and gentle on the environment throughout the appliance's 20 year lifecycle.

Miele places the highest priority on environmental protection in production across the company. An effective environmental management system ensures that resources are handled carefully, and energy, emissions and waste are all reduced. In order to achieve a positive environmental balance the Production, Product packaging and Transport and Logistics sectors are all integrated into this system.

The consumption values of Miele household appliances have been continually reduced whilst their performance and convenience has been increased.

In the case of domestic washing machines, the water consumption has been reduced by 42.4% since 1990 whilst the electricity consumption has been reduced by 29.2%

All Miele washing machines and dishwashers across the globe have the energy efficiency category A with many offering load recognition and detergent dosing systems to reduce environmental impact.

The intelligent load recognition function in our dishwashers can reduce water consumption by up to 16% and the facility to connect to hot water further reduces energy consumption.

All of our refrigeration appliances are CFC and HFC free, with over 95% of these appliances being classified as A, A+ or A++ for energy efficiency.

Our ovens feature automatic programmes and functions along with heat recovery systems to help limit energy consumption. All of our 60cm ovens are rated 'A' for energy.

In order to keep domestic appliances up to date with current needs Miele has been offering the update function to update programmes since 1995. The ecological methods mean that the constant need to replace household appliances becomes a thing of the past.
