- Fan Plus
-
This is the function you will probably use most frequently since it gives very fast, even cooking and allows you to bake on all four levels at once, if you want to. It heats up very rapidly so there is no need to preheat unless the overall cooking time is going to be less than 20 minutes.
Always use the solid baking trays with Fan plus, making sure that the sloping edge is at the front because this will give the airflow direction and ensure even cooking. Your cake tins can simply sit on the baking tray and smaller items such as cookies or scones can be placed directly on to the baking tray.
Fan plus also allows you to cook sweet and savoury items in the oven at the same time, (provided they both require the same oven temperature), without any cross transference of flavours.
- Conventional (Top and Bottom Heat)
-
Use this when you want long, slow cooking for items such as rich fruitcakes or casseroles. The gentler heat of this function prevents foods drying out when they are in the oven for a long time.
Always preheat the oven for this function and use the wire rack on shelf position 2. This will mean that the food is central in the oven, being evenly heated from the top and the bottom.
- Auto roast
-
This is the function for roasting because it sears and seals the meat at 230°C then automatically drops down to the pre-selected temperature to continue roasting.
The roast probe can also be used in conjunction with Autoroast function to create the perfect finish for your joint.
- Gentle Bake
-
Use this function when you want to cook soufflés and gratins where a crispy top is required. Place the food on shelf position 2 so that it is central in the oven.
- Intensive Heat
-
This is the best function for cooking quiches, pies and pizzas where you want to ensure a crispy base. It also means you can eliminate the “blind baking” process from quiche and tart making.
Place the food on the solid baking tray and use shelf position 1. This allows the heat from the base element in the floor of the oven to crisp the pastry while the heat from the fan element cooks the filling.
- Top heat
-
Use this function where only the top heating element comes on for browning and crisping dishes when you have a cheesy topping or perhaps a meringue.
- Bottom heat
-
This function only uses the base heating element and is the best one to use with a bain-marie. Equally, if you want to reheat a quiche or pizza and ensure that the base remains crisp, then select this function.
- Full/Economy Grill
-
If you have a lot of food to grill then choose Full Grill. However, if you only have a few items, then the Economy Grill where only the inner heating element comes on is ideal. Remember to preheat the grill before use and always grill with the oven door closed.
- Defrost
-
An ideal function for gentle defrosting of more delicate food items. The fan circulates the air at room temperature, or up to 50°C, around the food to be defrosted.
Using this function will cut the overall defrosting time. It can also be used to slightly speed up the proving of yeast dough if a temperature of 40°C is selected.
